Quote:First, off, the forum isn't about me, so lets not make it about me. Secondly, I suggest you take a look around before you whine about me posting or not posting, as well as never saying anything positive, then feel free to make inaccurate grand proclamations.
Seems a not insignificant number of people understand that my critiques are generally on point; one might wonder how I could possibly manage that if I didn't know what I was doing myself, or couldn't...It is entirely possible that I separate my professional work from work I post here, which is why there is not a deluge. I'm not looking for validation, clients give enough. You're only going to find side projects here, and there are some. Either way, nobody here should have to post a CV to make a comment about work, and I certainly don't personally attack others' credibility when they comment on mine, what purpose does that serve? There is a huge difference between being personal just to be mean--that's easy--and being critical about an image--I'm well aware of that line, and do not cross it. Otherwise they would have closed my account a very, very long time ago.
I think by now MOST people have gotten the idea that I'm not here to be your fluffer and give some precise comments about whats not working, or what needs/could stand to be fixed. One might say that is a bit more useful that someone telling you how much they love you--everyone else does that anyways. If anyone would prefer to be coddled put it in the little intro with the images, and I'll just not post--if someone can't handle some criticism then they shouldn't be doing this or putting work out there; at the very least need to take a step back from their work and look at it with fresh eyes later.
No one has to appease me with their work, I couldn't care less and its not the point, this is not my site, but I was under the impression that people posted things for comments, either positive or critical--sometimes they even explicitly welcome them--which one could reasonably assume means they want to improve. A one liner about how "realistic" an image is doesn't get you very far: its really vague, far too general, and could be applied to pretty much anything around here that remotely resembles "realistic", which when put to the test most images here fail anyways. Plus at this point it is so easy to get something that would pass for realistic to the layman that you're now congratulating people on essentially the ability to push the teapot button. Perhaps pushing the limits a bit more is in order?
Crushed colors are easily fixable and tweakable--it was a creative choice made in post that in my opinion could and should be adjusted; toned down at the very least--its not like I invalidated the entire subject matter. I find neo-baroque interiors utterly tiresome, but clearly people are still doing them with no signs of slowing down so there's not much point in critiquing that anymore now is there? I could spend days on here coming up with nasty comments if that was the goal; its not.
As far as a non-negative post, I didn't have to look too far down on my profile to find one...your due diligence is suspect at best.
I believe if you look there, you'll also find some threads I started...so, yeah.

overall, i really like the images. the lighting is great and evenly fills the room, but, imo, the colors are too deep and that clashes with the overall brightness and the stark whites of the image. its very realistic--definitely in terms of material creation--but hurts my eyes when i view it; it took awhile for my eyesight to adjust...
btw, great post-production process you have...
@barrlley: i agree. too many ppl respond with "great", "awesome render", or "incredibly realistic". if you're gonna tell someone that, let them know why its "great" or what makes it an "awesome render." i doubt they come here only to have ppl say how everything they do is "the best render ever."
there is nothing wrong with looking at an image up and down then commenting on your perspective of it. it's sad when only the great front page renders get c&c and everyone else in the forum gets page views but no comments or critique. i understand my work isn't the best, but giving my .2 cents worth doesn't hurt anyone...
