Hello! In this tutorial I will explain you how to make a simple tree. This one is taken from Archmodels Vol.31
1. Let's start from simple box. By using Extrude tool start to extruding segments. Every time changing scale and direction of extruding polygon. After you finish trunk start to extruding branches form sides. Make only trick branches. Try to fill space that your tree
should occupy. You should also use other poly tools like: Chamfer, Connect, QuickSlice, Cut

4. Add to your branch XForm modifier and move it's center to this same place as before. Hit right button on your mouse and selectConvert to Editable Poly.
5. Select your tree and hit Ctrl+V from keyboard to clone it. Hide original tree by click right button and chose Hide Selection. Delete base of your tree, leave only upper branches. Add MeshSmooth modifier.
6. Select your single branch and go to Create -> Geometry -> Compound Objects -> Scatter. Hit Pick Distribution Object and select Upper level branches. Use Image bellow to set scatter. If you are not satisfy try to change speed and scale parameters.
7. Create Plane and modify it as I show bellow. remember also to change Pivot position. Add XForm modifier and move it center to pivot position. Click right mouse button and Convert to Editable Poly.
8. Select your leaf and go to Create -> Geometry -> Compound Objects -> Scatter. Hit Pick Distribution Object and select small branches. Use Image bellow to set scatter. If you are not satisfy try to change speed and scale parameters.
9. Delete upper level branches you made in point 5. Click right mouse button and select Unhide All. Select all object in scene by Ctrl+A from keyboard and convert it Editable Poly.
10. Select base tree and using attach order from Modify panel attach branches. Add UVW Map Modifier and MeshSmooth.
11. Apply appropriate textures to Tree and leafs.
