Hello, in this small tutorial I'll show you how to convert curves to mesh - this is the perfect way to create logos (for example to your car models), 3D text and all stuff light this. Below you can see 3D logo and 3d text, that were created in few minutes. So lets start:

First, you will be learn how to model a car logo, so you have to create simple plane, which will be our reference (to creat eit fallow the image).

To put reference image correctly in the scen you have to set right size to the grid object. So you have to check the resolution of your reference image and then type it as U Length and V Lenght. U and V Subdivision set to 1, so there will be no segments on the reference.

Now you have to map your grid object - without this you will not be able to see texture. So to do this, just select your grid and follow the image.

Now lets create texture. Go to material and select, for example, Lambert. Next click on small icon (marked on the image) and choose Image. Now you are able to choose correct image, in my case it is a logo of VW (. Now when you change display options to textured, so you can see your texture in the scen.

Now it's time to draw outlines of logo. So create simple circle curve (just like you can see on the image).

Next position it exactly like on the image. But it was easy - a little harder is to create other outlines. Now I'll show you how to make it.

Draw Linear is a tool that allows you to create straight angular lines. Select it, by clicking on Curve > Draw Linear

Now draw a line, just like you can see on the image. It shoud have only to points (on start and in the end).

Draw Cubic allows you to create smooth lines. You have got to way to use it. Drawning using Knot points or CV's. Select one of them, I took Draw Cubic by Knot Points.

Now drow a line like you can see on the image - try to make as low points as it is possible. In my case I created 5 points.

On this image you can see that I create lines that does not fit to each other - there is a hole between them. I did it, cause I want to show you how to connect to curves. So select both curves and choose blend options.

As you can see I created blend (new curve) between both curves. How I did it? First I selected point on one curve, where connection shoud start and then I choosed other curve and next I selected point where connection should end. it seams to be a little complicated, but it's quite easy - just try few times.

But I made only blend between both curves, so I have to connect all 3 curves. I'll use merge tool to make it.

How use it? Again select one curve, then choose point which should be merged, next select second curve and choose point to merge (those points on both curves shoud be in this same place). As you can see on the image connection is a little bad. But we can solve it fast and easy. Just choose Position (C0) in Continuity.

As you can see now we have got new curve that is made from 2 curves. If you are perfectly sure that You will not edit the shape of the curves you can choose Delete (Freezes Op).

Now make this same again, to connect secon curve.

If you made everything correctly, you shoud gain somthing like you can see on the image.

Now you have to create blend on the other side of your new curve. So select blend operation and connect two points. You shoud gain new small curve, like on the image.

Next you have to merge both curve. So as we did before, select one curve and choose point on the end of it and next select second curve, and choose point which is located on this same place, where first curve ends). Now you should have only one curve. AND WHAT IS VERY IMPORTANT - at the end you have to choose Open/Close - that will close our curve.

Now, when you know how to connect curves just make other outlines. First draw all curves, next make blend between them and merge all curves.

Here you can see the second outline.

Here you can see all outlines. I create them using technic that I shown you.

Now it's time to create 3D logo. To make it you'll use Curve to Mesh function. So first select all curves and then choose Curve to Mesh.

In table go to te Extrude parameters. There tape correct value of Length - in my case it was 0,5. Here you can choose direction of extruding and parts that shoud be created in extrusion process. I unmarked Front, couse this part will not be seen in the logo.

Next back to general parameters. In my opinion my logo is to angular. To make it more smooth I increase level of Conture to 6 and holes to 4.

Now go to bavel section and choose Depth value. As you can see this operation created nice smooth corners. Remember to marked Proportionaly Smaller for Holes. Thanks to this bevel will be equal in every place of logo.

What is nice, you can quick change bavel shape. Just click on the icon with 3 dots and choose correct preset.

Our logo is finished. It's very similar to the oryginal and what is simportant, we created it fast and easy. Bavel options allows us to create smooth corners, what will make nice reflections on final render. But using this same technic you can create some 3D text. Just select Text and choose curve.

In table you have got all options that you need. So thanks to this you will not have to draw all outlines of letters.

There is only one little disadvantages of using text and Curve to Mesh operation. Corners are very angular and as you remember in logo, we created blend between all curves, so corners there were round.
