This is short tutorial about modeling a tube. Beginners should learn from this material how to use basic polymodelling tools.

Create cylinder with few sides.

Convert the cylinder to editable poly.

Choose polygon from selection group.

Choose large round polygon and delete them (press Delete).

Create flat box like the one on screenshot, and convert them to poly.

Delete polygon near to cylinder.

Select cylinder and go to Create menu, choose Compound objects from list and click Connect.

Click Pick Operand and then click on box. Now, you have base for your tube.

Convert them to editable poly.

Select polys on opposite sides of flat part of the tube and extrude them a little.

Extrude cylindrical part few times…

and bevel the last one.

Resize cylindrical part. You can use poly or edge selection, resize radius of individual “circles” to get proper shape of the tube.

Choose edges that you can see on screenshot.

And chamfer them just a little to prevent smoothing of those regions.

Choose polygon selection and to Subdivision Surface menu. Check Use NURMS Subdivision, and set Iterations to 1 or 2. Do not enter higher values, your system will slow down, so 2 is far enough in this case.

Now create cap from cone. Create cone like on screenshot and convert them to poly.

Select circle polygons and extrude them a little.

Select Edges and chamfer them.

And extrude new polygons to the center of cap.

Inset top polygon of the cap…

…and extrude them.

Inset and bevel opposite polygon.

After that again inset this polygon and extrude them to top of the tube.

Now you can add some details and texture this model.
