Welcome warmly. In this simply tutorial I attempt to bring subject about dynamics hair for beginners.

First think we should do is to create a model that will emit our hair. In our case sphere will be sufficient Get primitive>polygon mesh>sphere. The parameters of our sphere we leave alone. To this tutorial you can use whatever you like even your organic mesh.

Now we choose a selection option Polygon, next in view port window Right we mark the bottom half of our sphere.

Now we select the Scissors like button, it is our Hair panel in which we have whole functions needed to model fur or hair. Now we are using our previous selection to generate hair. Create> hair>from selection. Now we can see helpers to our hairs in white linear shape.

To show our hairs we should select in Hair panel > Render Hairs. By default in our view ports there are 10% of our hair shown to us. We can change amount of it but efficiency of our PC will decrease specially with hair animation.

Ok. So lets focus on basics of hair modeling. In selection window at your right side of a screen we choose Point. We select a part of hair we wish to cut or enlarge and use Scale tool. We have a plenty of options here with which we can create what ever we want with our hair(Thank You XSI :D). A suggest that you should try some of these controls and you will feel the power of this tool. You can also model them by using modeling tool.
MODEL>Modify>Component>proportional/proportional setup...

Now we have to create the Gravity Force. Create>force>gravity and set it up to effect our curly. Modify>environment>apply force and we select our Gravity Force in the Scene. You should remember to select our hair model before applying. Now we press Dynamic button and from now on our hair are dynamic.

The great advantage in XSI is a fact that hair are simulate in real-time so we have the opportunity to set everything as we proceed with other stuff. Go into subselection Object and select Sphere and press ‘V’ – translate tool. In field that is marked as red we select hair properties.

If we would like to go back and model the hair again we have to delete the dynamics of them (unless there is another way which I haven’t known yet). Select hair and then press selection button and here select and delete your hair dynamics operator.

And that would be all. Best wishes from whole Evermotion Team.
